The Sierra Club has teamed up with the University of California Press to copublish Sierra Club Books, effective April 1. The new agreement with UCP replaces an expired agreement with Random House, which had been copublishing Sierra Club adult titles since 1998.

In an arrangement similar to the old one with Random, Sierra Club Books will handle acquisitions and editorial, and UCP will take care of production, marketing, sales and distribution. Random will continue to distribute Sierra Club titles until the end of February. Helen Sweetland, publisher of Sierra Club Books, said the house will publish five titles in the fall of 2002, noting that "this is a transition year for our publishing program." The list will increase to about 15 titles in 2003. Sierra Club Books has about nine employees on its staff.

Sierra Club calendars will continue to be published and distributed by Random House's Crown Publishing Group. And Sierra Club Books for Children will continue to be copublished by Gibbs Smith, Publisher.
