And this monkey did the best so far. Jeffery Deaver's latest Lincoln Rhyme caper, The Stone Monkey, is hitting the bestseller charts higher than any of his previous books—it's #3 on PW's list this week. Laydown date was March 12, and Simon & Schuster launched the book with a 250,000-copy first printing, Deaver's highest. Forensic expert Rhyme and partner/lover Amelia Sachs were introduced in The Bone Collector. With the success of the newest thriller, maybe Hollywood should look to bring back Denzel Washington, who portrayed the homebound detective Rhyme in the 1999 film The Bone Collector (Angelina Jolie played Sachs). As we went to press, columnists had been noting a groundswell of support for Washington to win the Oscar for his performance in Training Day.
