John Wiley & Sons has acquired 250 teacher education titles from Prentice Hall Direct, a unit of Pearson Education. Terms were not disclosed. The acquired titles focus on teaching strategies for k—12 teachers, administrators, coaches and counselors. Series include Ready-to-Use, Problem Solver and Book of Lists. Stephen Kippur, executive v-p and president of the professional/trade group, said the new titles will complement the company's Jossey-Bass education series and give Wiley a stronger presence in the education market. Wiley will sell the titles through its multichannel sales and distribution network.
The sale of the education line is part of Pearson Education's strategy to pare down its PH Direct operation. In May, PH Direct's Prentice Hall Press imprint was absorbed by Penguin (News, May 13) and the company said it was reviewing the remaining PH Direct lines on a case-by-case basis.
