Just a week after retooling its paperback imprints into lines that will also publish hardcovers, Simon & Schuster has announced that African-American author Michael Baisden's latest novel, God's Gift to Women, will be published as a Touchstone hardcover.

Baisden had been self-publishing his hardcovers—by choice, according to S&S — and relying on the imprint for paperbacks, but when talk of the reorganization began to surface, editors negotiated a hard/soft deal with the author. Baisden's biggest success with S&S is a trade paper edition of a novel titled The Maintenance Man, which hit the USA Today bestseller list.
