As part of stepping up its trade profile, 30-year-old Vermont publisher and distributor Trafalgar Square has named Deborah Sloan to the newly created position of director of marketing and promotion effective September 17. Sloan has been with Candlewick Press for the past 11 years, most recently as executive director of marketing. She will be based in Trafalgar's satellite office in the Boston area, which is scheduled to open soon.

Trafalgar managing director Paul Feldstein told PW, "We are thrilled to add Deborah to our team. We've always done standard publicity and some advertising and promotion, but we've never had someone focusing on sales and marketing. It will help our customers sell through and it will help us selling in."

A privately held company, Trafalgar is one of the leading equestrian publishers in the U.S. and has a strong list of craft, home decoration, gardening and body/mind/spirit books. Its distribution business started in 1986 and and now has about 40 clients, the majority of which are from the U.K. and range in size from large general houses such as Little, Brown UK to Take That Books, a U.K. publisher specializing in business, finance and computer books.
