E-wholesaler and e-publishing services vendor OverDrive has reached an agreement with OfficeMax, the business-supply retail chain, to open the OfficeMax.com digital bookstore, offering bestselling business and technology e-books through the chain's Web site. The partnership is the latest in OverDrive's strategy of creating new retail outlets by providing online retailing infrastructure and inventory to nonbook retail sites.

Michael Feuer, CEO of OfficeMax, said that offering e-books is a valuable service to OfficeMax customers. "We're providing small businesses and mobile professionals with immediate access to bestselling authors, technology guides and manuals from leading publishers," he said.

The OfficeMax digital store will offer titles in the Microsoft Reader, Adobe Acrobat and Palm e-book formats. Business and management titles from Random House, John Wiley, St. Martin's Press and other houses will be featured. OfficeMax customers can set up their own e-book accounts and personal libraries to retrieve their titles at any time.
