A group comprised of the the investment firms Thomas H. Lee and Bain Capital has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Houghton Mifflin for $1.66 billion. Completion of the deal is still subject to final approval by the parties, which is expected soon. Before the most recent agreement was reached, the Blackstone Group and Apax Partners, former partners with Lee and Bain, dropped out of the bidding.
