Pat Tierney, who last month announced his plan to resign as head of Thomson Financial (News, Nov. 25), has been appointed to the newly created position of CEO of Reed Elsevier's global education publishing division. Reed has been looking to fill that post ever since it acquired the college publishing division and certain other assets from Harcourt last year (News, July 23, 2001). Tierney, who will be based in New York, will be responsible for the U.S. schools publishing and testing businesses, the U.K. education business and the international schools publishing business. He will report to Crispin Davis, Reed's CEO.
