Tom Brokaw's latest bestseller, A Long Way from Home: Growing Up in the American Heartland, moved up to #3 on its second week on PW's national bestseller chart; he and his publisher are hoping for a very good Christmas. Brokaw's first book, The Greatest Generation, led the charts two years in a row, in 1999 and 2000, and enjoyed a run of 69 weeks on our list, with 18 of those in the #1 spot. Random House reports about four million copies in print of the hardcover and trade paperback combined. First printing for the new book is 500,000 copies, and Brokaw has done tons of national media appearances. A book signing at the Barnes & Noble in his hometown, Sioux City, S.Dak., drew more than 700 people and close to 1,000 books were sold.
