Seven-year-old Hushion House Publishing, Toronto, sees opportunities in the roiled Canadian distribution waters, muddied by the recent collapse of both General Publishing and Stewart House. Even though it had been one of General's largest clients, Hushion House has bounced back and moved its fulfillment to Georgetown Terminal Warehouse in both Canada and the U.S. "We've been lucky," said sales and marketing manager Angie Brooks. "Our clients stayed with us, and we're very grateful." Hushion House is one of several Canadian distributors aggressively expanding into the U.S. market, where it has 18 commission representatives. "We're really trying to pick up new lines," noted Brooks. "In the U.S. we probably have about 70% one-off authors and some publishers with extensive lists." Altogether Hushion House represents about 500 publishers and 3,500 titles. Eckankar is its newest client line in the U.S.; it previously represented Eckankar in Canada only.
