Editorial director Tracy Behar at the S&S line bought a memoir by Jenifer Estes, a young New York theatrical producer and film festival organizer struck down by the rare and irreversibly fatal ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, after the baseball star who suffered from it. In the book, to be written by her sister Valerie, and called Tales from the Bed, Estes will tell how she was stricken six years ago, at the height of a successful career, and how she and her sisters have since become involved in widely publicized efforts to fight the disease and find a cure. From the bed that will ultimately be her deathbed, she reviews her life, greets visitors and well-wishers, and sets an example of courage and hope. Behar bought North American, first serial and electronic rights from lawyer Robert Levine at Levine Plotnik & Menin and will publish in fall next year.
