A memoir by Deborah Santana, wife of celebrated singer/guitarist Carlos Santana, has been bought by Melody Guy at Ballantine's One World imprint after she had visited a number of interested publishers. West Coast agent Jillian Manus, who flew her East to introduce her around, said she made the strongest connection with Guy. Santana, who is the child of a biracial marriage (her father was legendary blues singer Saunders King) had an early and stormy relationship with Sly Stone before settling into her 30-year marriage with Carlos Santana. The book, called Space Between the Stars, will be the story of her struggles with questions of race and identity and of learning to hold her own in the music world. Manus sold Guy world rights, but is keeping audio for a special sale that will involve music elements.
