In a major restructuring, Richard Cable has been appointed managing director of Random House UK's new adult publishing division, Random House. The single division unites the company's two existing general books divisions, CCV (Cape, Chatto, Vintage, Pimlico, Secker, Yellow Jersey and Harvill) and CHA (Century, Hutchinson, Arrow, William Heinemann, Business and Audio). Cable will still report to Simon Master, Random's deputy chairman.

Susan Sandon has been promoted to publisher of the CHA unit, replacing Cable, and will report directly to him; Dan Franklin, publisher of the CCV lines, also now reports to Cable. Transworld, Ebury and Random House Children's Books remain unaffected by these structural changes, which created four self-contained operating divisions.

Random has also created a new sales division by integrating all U.K. and international sales across the new Random House division with Ebury, Transworld and Random House Children's Books. Mike Broderick has been promoted to Random House Group sales director. He will report to Ian Hudson, Random's managing director. Gary Prior will become deputy group sales director, adding to his responsibilities as sales and marketing director of Transworld.

Gail Rebuck, Random House chairman and CEO, described the streamlined sales structure as "a one-stop shop... maintaining the focus, energy, culture and drive of our three distinct adult publishing companies."
