Houghton Mifflin has increased its presence in the testing marketing through a preliminary agreement to acquire Edusoft. Based in San Francisco, Edusoft has developed a Web-based assessment platform that helps school districts, administrators and teachers track student performance on state standards through three kinds of tests: state exams, district benchmarks and in-class tests.

Edusoft was founded in December 2000 by Silicon Valley entrepreneurs Jay Kimmelmann and Dan Yates. The company has 65 employees and $17 million in signed contracts with 200 school districts.
