Stephen King's latest bestseller, Dark Tower VI: Song of Susannah (Donald M. Grant/Scribner) has knocked Dan Brown off the top of the charts this week, a spot that the megaselling The Da Vinci Code has held onto for 21 weeks this year alone. It will be interesting to see if King can hold onto that lead. So far in 2004, John Grisham seized the #1 spot for two weeks with The Last Juror, and the latest installment in the Left Behind series, Glorious Appearing, had a one-week run at the top. Scribner had a one-day laydown on June 8 and launched King's book with a 685,000-copy first printing; a second of 25,000 has already been ordered. King did a nine-city radio tour on laydown date and this penultimate title in his 30-year series has enjoyed excellent reviews, including a starred PW notice. The seventh and final installment is due in the stores in September.
