Two bestselling writers in the fantasy genre hit the national charts this week. In the #2 spot on PW's fiction list is the conclusion of R.A. Salvatore's Forgotten Realms: The Hunter's Blades Trilogy, The Two Swords. Wizards of the Coast launched it with a 300,000-copy printing.
In the #14 spot this week is The Runes of the Earth: Book One of The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen R. Donaldson. The author's fans have waited more than 20 years for the return of Thomas Covenant (the Second Chronicles, a trilogy, was completed in 1983). According to Putnam, the newest book is the first in a quartet and first printing was 101,000 copies. The first six Covenant titles have sold about 10 million copies worldwide. The author is currently doing a signing tour of the Eastern seaboard.
