Ever since Markus Dohle took over as chairman of Random House, there has been much speculation about his plans for the nation's largest trade publisher. To date, the only significant change has been the resignation of vice chairman Ed Volini and the elimination of 16 positions at Doubleday, a move made by Doubleday president Steve Rubin. Dohle has been very guarded since he took over on June 1, giving no interviews and limiting his public comments to a letter sent to employees about RH's first-half results. Company spokesperson Stuart Applebaum said Dohle “is dedicated to moving our company forward.” That company has more than 5,000 employees worldwide and sales of $2.3 billion.
