Although 20-year-old Heritage Books, which sells used books and ephemera in Southampton, Mass., does most of its business online (www.heritagebks.com), last month it put a new spin on its physical location in the former town library—with an antique Ferris wheel. The recently restored Ferris wheel, which is about three feet in diameter and was constructed from 29,000 wooden medical applicators, is on view during store hours—Saturday and Sunday afternoon and by appointment during the week. Owner Bruce Coombs, who also runs a survey business, estimates that the store stocks close to a million hardcovers plus a large selection of trade paperbacks, for a total of about 30,000 titles. Located just a few doors away from his surveying offices, the bookstore shares some staff, and books are shipped from both locations.
