After a string of down months, sales stirred a bit in the adult hardcover segment in June with the 17 publishers who report figures to the AAP showing a 12.6% gain for the month. Sales were still off 17.8% in the segment for the first half of 2009. Only four of the 13 segments tracked by AAP had a sales increase in the six-month period, with e-books posting the largest gain. The 13 e-book publishers who report sales had total revenue of $61.2 million, a jump of 149.3% over the first six months of 2008. Sales in the higher education segment posted big gains in June and the six months, while the children's hardcover category, up 30.7% for the year to date slowed down in June with sales off 2.8%.

AAP Meeting
