Helped by a 7.8% increase in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the Publishers Weekly Stock Index jumped 15.5% in September, with all but one of the companies on the Index posting an increase in their stock price. The big winner in the month was Amazon, whose stock priced soared 25.8% as investors continue to see more growth ahead for the e-commerce giant. Other gainers in the month were given a boost by stock buy-back announcements, including Scholastic and John Wiley. During the month, Scholastic announced plans for a "Dutch Auction," under which it will acquire up to $150 million worth of stock for between $27 and $31 per share.
