Unit sales of print books rose 12% for the week ended Apr. 13, 2014, compared to week 15 of 2013 at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. It was the second consecutive week that sales posted double-digit year-over-year gains, led, once again, by the juvenile segments. Sales of juvenile fiction jumped 49% in week 15 of 2014, compared to the week ended Apr. 14, 2013, as the still-strong sales of Divergent books were joined by sales of paperback editions of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars at the top of the list. The regular paperback of Stars sold about 34,000 copies in its first week on sale, and the paperback movie tie-in edition sold about 15,500 units at outlets that report to BookScan. The film adaptation is scheduled to open in early May. Sales in the juvenile nonfiction segment increased 47% in week 15, led by board books, whose sales doubled. Sales of the 100 top-selling board book titles tripled in week 15, driven by a number of Easter books.
