Unit sales of print books rose 3% in the week ended June 1, 2014, compared to the similar week in 2013, at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. The only one of the four major categories to report a sales decline in week 22 was adult fiction, but, even there, the drop was less than it has been in most recent weeks, due to a host of new titles. The top-selling adult fiction book was the hardcover edition of Jim Butcher’s Skin Game, which sold just under 48,000 copies. Several new mass market paperbacks also had strong debuts in the week, led by Linda Lael Miller’s The Marriage Pact and Christine Feehan’s Air Bound, which sold approximately 29,000 copies and 22,000 copies, respectively. Juvenile fiction had the strongest performance, as Clare Cassandra’s City of Heavenly Fire sold more than 101,000 copies in its first week on sale, putting it in second place, in between two editions of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars. Overall sales in the juvenile fiction category rose 22% in week 22 of 2014, compared to the week ended June 2, 2013.
