Unit sales of print books increased 2% in the week ended Nov. 2, 2014, compared to the similar week last year, at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. The gain was led by a 4% increase in the retail & club channel, which offset a 3% decline in sales to mass merchandisers. The adult nonfiction segment had a solid week, with units up 3%. A number of debut titles did well in the category, including Make It Ahead: A Barefoot Contessa Cookbook by Ina Garten, which sold over 131,000 copies in its first week on sale, landing it in the top spot on the adult nonfiction list. Amy Poehler’s Yes Please sold over 36,000 copies in its first week out—good enough for third place on the adult nonfiction list. Unit sales in the adult fiction segment slipped by less than 1% in week 44, with a number of new titles hitting the top of the list. Black Magick by Nora Roberts was the bestselling fiction title in the week, selling more than 93,000 copies. George R.R. Martin’s The World of Ice & Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones was in the third spot in the week, selling over 47,000 copies as a $50 hardcover. There was a new top seller in the juvenile fiction category: Rush Revere and the American Revolution sold about 55,000 copies in its first week. The juvenile nonfiction category had the largest gain in the week, as five Minecraft titles combined to sell approximately 50,000 copies.
