Unit sales of print books rose 3% in the week ended July 12, 2015, compared to the similar week last year at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. Adult fiction posted another healthy gain in the week as Grey by E.L. James had another week where sales went over 100,000, as the novel sold more than 108,000 copies at outlets that report to BookScan, The strongest selling debut was Code of Conduct by Brad Thor, which sold more than 25,000 copies in its first week on sale. Unit sales rose 2% in the adult nonfiction segment over week 28 of 2014. Jimmy Carter’s A Full Life debuted at #3, selling more than 11,000 copies, while The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo took the top spot, selling more than 23,000 copies in the week. Unit sales in juvenile nonfiction jumped 17%, benefitting from a surge in sales of Johanna Basford’s Secret Garden, which was #1 in the category in the week, selling over 23,000 copies. Four Brain Quest titles combined to sell more than 23,000 copies in the week, and the different editions were in the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth spots on the juvenile nonfiction list. Sales in the juvenile fiction category fell 5% compared to the week ended July 13, 2014. Two editions of John Green’s Paper Towns held the first and third places on the juvenile fiction list, and the strongest debut was Chris Colfer’s The Land of Stories, which sold almost 19,000 copies in the week.
