FSG Crosses the ‘Borderline’ With Perkins
After winning a multiple-round auction, Grace Kendall at Farrar, Straus and Giroux Books for Young Readers took world rights, for six figures, to Mitali Perkins’s YA novel Borderlines. The book, which is set for a fall 2017 release, was sold by Laura Rennert at the Andrea Brown Agency. Perkins has written nine books for children and won multiple literary awards, including the E.B. White Young Adult Honor. Rennert said Borderlines, which links 15 stories about a Bengali family in Queens, features “the literary charm of The House on Mango Street and the bittersweet poignancy of How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent.” Perkins was born in Kolkata, India, and the novel, Rennert noted, is “inspired by [the author’s] own experience as the youngest of three sisters who arrived in America with a wave of immigrants in the 1970s.”

Forsthoefel Goes ‘Walking’ For B’bury
Anton Mueller at Bloomsbury nabbed world English rights to Walking to Listen, Andrew Forstoefel’s account of his year-long 4,000-mile trek across the U.S. Forsthoefel, a freelance writer, decided to make the epic walk in order to find “the answers he didn’t learn in college to the basic yet bedeviling questions of how to grow up and live a good life,” as the publisher put it. He’s been blogging about the experience and was featured on This American Life because of it. The book initially sold to Courtney Young at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in 2013; when she left HMH, though, rights to it again became available. Daniel Greenberg at Levine Greenberg brokered the deal for Forstoefel; Bloomsbury plans to publish the title in spring 2017.

Feiwel and Friends Takes Burt’s ‘Trevors’
Jake Burt sold his debut middle-grade novel, We Are (So Not) the Trevors, to Liz Szabla at Feiwel and Friends. The book, which is slated for spring 2017 and was represented by Rebecca Stead at the Book Group, is about a 13-year-old pickpocket in the foster-care system who longs for her own family. When a clan called the Trevors offers to take her in, it seems like she’s gotten exactly what she wanted—until she learns that the family is being pursued by a killer and is about to enter the witness-protection program. Stead said the novel is a “full-of-heart story about the pursuit of ‘normal.’ ” Burt teaches fifth grade in Connecticut and is an alumnus of Teach for America.

RH Kids Plays ‘Double Dutch’ with Spicer-Dannelly
Producer-director Doreen Spicer-Dannelly, who’s been behind such television shows as the Disney Channel’s The Proud Family, sold her debut middle-grade novel, For the Love of Double Dutch. Diane Landolf at Random House Children’s Books took North American rights to the title from Regina Brooks at Serendipity Literary. The book, set for fall 2017, follows a girl who must leave her beloved Brooklyn double Dutch team when her parents, whose relationship is rocky, ship her off to spend the summer with a cousin in North Carolina.

Amy Ephron Builds a ‘Castle’ at Philomel
Novelist, essayist, and former Warner Brothers executive Amy Ephron sold her first work for children, The Castle in the Mist, to Philomel Books. Jill Santopolo at the Penguin Young Readers Group imprint acquired world rights from Kari Stuart at ICM and attorney Robert Myman at Myman Greenspan. The book, which is aimed at readers ages 8–12 and set for a spring 2017 release, follows siblings Tessa and Max, who discover a magical key that gives them access to the ancient castle next to their house. The key also gives the indecisive Tessa a chance to have a single wish granted. Ephron, who said she’s always wanted to write for a younger audience, called Castle “a modern-day mash-up of an old-fashioned children’s novel.”

Mechanic and frequent morning–talk show guest Patrice Banks sold Girls' Auto Clinic Glove Box Guide to Matthew Benjamin at Touchstone. Banks dispenses automotive advice aimed at women—a demographic often overcharged by mechanics—on Girls Auto Clinic, her website. She has also appeared on the shows CBS Sunday Morning and Fox and Friends. The book, Touchstone said, will be a “handy how-to manual on basic auto maintenance for women.” Eric Myers at Dystel & Goderich represented Banks in the deal.

Correction: An earlier version of this article called Patrice Banks' book Auto Clinic Glove Box Guide. The title is Girls' Auto Clinic Glove Box Guide.
