Unit sales of print books dipped slightly in the week ended Feb. 14, 2016, compared to the similar week in 2015, at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. With sales through mass merchandisers dropping 17%, total unit sales fell 0.1%. Sales through the retail and club channel rose 5% in the week, almost offsetting the poor performance through mass merchandisers. The adult nonfiction category had the biggest sales gain in the week with units up 8%. Low-Carb Essentials by George Stella was the #1 book in the category, selling more than 25,000 copies in its first week. The only other new book to crack the top 10 adult nonfiction bestsellers list was Turning the Tables by Teresa Giudice, which sold just under 10,000 copies, putting it in 10th place. Unit sales of juvenile fiction rose 7% in the week, helped by the release of Joyous Blooms to Color by Eleri Fowler, a coloring book for preschoolers and older kids designed along the lines of an adult coloring book. Blooms sold more than 7,600 copies in its first week, putting it in fourth place on the juvenile nonfiction list. The adult fiction category had one of its worst weeks of 2016, with units off 9% compared to 2015. The top-selling adult fiction title was Harlan Coben’s The Stranger, which sold more than 20,000 copies. Pierce Brown’s Morning Star sold more than 13,000 copies in its first week, putting it in seventh place on the adult fiction bestseller list.
