Unit sales of print books slipped 1% in the week ended June 26, 2016, compared to the similar week in 2015, at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. For the third week in a row, the adult nonfiction category was the only major segment to post an increase in sales. Units in the category rose 5%, even though there was little change at the top of the bestsellers list. Bill O’Reilly’s Legends and Lies: The Patriots by David Fisher stayed in the top spot in the category, selling more than 20,000 copies in the week. The highest-ranking new title was Imagimorphia: An Extreme Coloring and Search Challenge by Kerby Rosanes, which sold almost 7,000 copies in its first week, landing at #12 on the adult nonfiction list. Unit sales in adult fiction fell 6% in the week, as difficult comparisons to last year’s sales following the release of Grey by E.L. James continued. For the week ended June 28, 2015, Grey sold about 242,000 copies, while the #1 adult fiction bestseller in the week ended June 26, 2016, Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, sold only about 23,000 copies. The juvenile nonfiction segment had a 2% drop in units compared to 2015. A new book by Bill O’Reilly, The Day the President Was Shot, finished second on the category bestsellers list in the week, selling almost 7,000 copies. Unit sales in the juvenile fiction category fell 3%, as Ransom Riggs’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children returned to the top of the segment bestsellers list, selling more than 17,000 copies in the week.
