Next year's BookExpo America will take place a week earlier than initially planned. The 2013 trade show is now set to run at New York City's Javits Center on Thursday, May 30 -- Saturday, June 1. Conference Day will take place on Wednesday, May 29.

McAleer Gets Global Role at Walker Books
In a move it says will improve its ability to exploit licensing and digital opportunities for all three of its subsidiaries to an international market, Walker Books Group has moved Helen McAleer, managing director of Walker Group UK, to the new role of chief global development officer of the Walker Books Group and managing director, Walker Productions.

New Heads for Scholastic UK; Storia Adds National Geographic
Scholastic has appointed Catherine Bell and Steve Thompson to be co-managing directors of Scholastic UK. In the U.S., a line of nonfiction titles from National Geographic for Kids will be available through Scholastic's Storia e-reading app in August.

HarperCollins Children’s Books has joined with Jim Henson Productions to launch a licensing program for Frog and Toad. It also has retained new licensing agents – Established Brands and the Wildflower Group, respectively – to expand the existing merchandise initiatives for Fancy Nancy and Goodnight Moon.

Obituary: Deborah Brodie
Longtime children’s book editor and writing instructor Deborah Brodie died on Wednesday, June 27, in New York City. She was 67 and had suffered from cancer.

The Living Books Series Returns as Storybook Apps
The Living Books series was one of the most successful CD-ROM products when they were first introduced by Broderbund in 1992 and the series is making a return next month as interactive storybook apps. The series is being developed for the new digital world by Wanderful, a San Francisco-based company headed by Mickey W. Mantle, who had overseen the Living Books launch when he was at Broderbund.
