NYPL Offers Instant Access to Game Changers Books
The New York Public Library (NYPL) will offer library card holders immediate access to ebook and audiobook versions of Heated Rivalry and the rest of Rachel Reid’s Game Changers series through Valentine’s Day. NYPL plans to add more print copies of the book series to its branches as well.
The move follows the exploding popularity of the queer hockey romance tied to its TV adaptation. Following the city’s recent snowstorm, Mayor Zohran Mamdani also urged readers to stay home and “take advantage of our public library’s offer of free access to Heated Rivalry,” per the New York Times.
NYPL spokesperson Lizzie Tribone told the Times that the number of downloads for Heated Rivalry surged by 529% after Mamdani’s news conference. Altogether, the six books in the Game Changers series have so far been downloaded more than 13,000 times from the NYPL.
“We expect this number to continue to climb,” Ms. Tribone noted.
