    Laura Nolan has been named head of the book publishing division at Paradigm. Nolan, who starts at the entertainment agency on March 14, was most recently a literary agent at DeFiore and Company where her authors include Danica McKellar and Stephen "Steve-O" Glover. Nolan, who also worked for Barnes & Noble.com, will join Alyssa Reuben and Jason Yarn in Paradigm's literary department.

  • Walter Zacharius Dies at 87

    Walter Zacharius, founder and chairman emeritus of Kensington Publishing, died on Wednesday. He was 87. The funeral is set for Sunday at 10 a.m. at "The Riverside," at 76 Street and Amsterdam Avenue in New York. A full obituary will run in tomorrow's PW Daily.

    Denise Oswald has been named senior editor at the HarperCollins imprint, It Books. Oswald has over 15 years of experience in the industry and was most recently editorial director of Soft Skull Press. Before Soft Skull she was at Faber and Faber. She has worked with such authors as Anne Carson, Billy Corgan, and Neil LaBute.

    Author Michael Levin has been named an editor-at-large at Brown Books Publishing Group's new business books division. Levin has written, and co-written, a number of bestselling books, including Giants with Pat Summerall and Rules of Engagement with Chad Hennings. At Brown, Levin will be working with CEOs and other executives on titles.

    Publisher and editor Margaret K. McElderry died on February 14 at the age of 98, and editor, publisher, anthologist, and author Janet Schulman died on February 11 at the age of 77.     After a 32-year career with Harlequin, Karin Stoecker, editorial director of Harlequin Mills and Boon UK, will retire on April 1. With Stoecker's and Randall Toye's recent retirements and the decision to phase out the Silhouette brand, Harlequin has made changes in its series editorial structure.

    Brian McLendon has been named associate publisher of Twelve. McLendon, who will start at the Hachette imprint on March 7, is currently v-p and deputy director of publicity at Ballantine Bantam Dell, and an agent director of the Random House Speakers Bureau.

  • More on Sheedy Departure from SLL

    After filing a lawsuit against Sterling Lord Literistic for a sum of at least $128,000, agent Charlotte Sheedy has established new contact information. Sheedy, as Publishers Marketplace reported, has ended her affiliation with SLL in conjunction with the suit, and is looking for new office space for her eponymous outfit in New York. After maintaining SLL email addresses, she can now be reached at the extension @sheedylit.com. Sheedy left SLL with one other agent, Meredith Kaffel, who said the agency now consists of them, and their assistants.

    Sarah Sper McLellan has joined Folio Literary Management as an agent, focusing on Christian/inspirational, narrative nonfiction, memoir, and prescriptive nonfiction, with an emphasis on health, wellness, diet, relationships, and self-help. McLellan was most recently an editor at Center Street.

  • Girkins Leaving Zondervan

    Zondervan president and CEO Maureen “Moe” Girkins is stepping down effective March 11, 2011. Scott Macdonald, acting general manager of Zondervan’s business unit The City (an integrated software platform for church communities), will take on the role of interim president.

  • Job Moves: February 17, 2011

    Sally Kim was named editorial director at Simon & Schuster's Touchstone imprint. Kim was most recently at HarperCollins, where she was executive editor of the Harper imprint. Before HC, Kim was at the Crown Publishing Group and, before that, St. Martin’s Press.

  • Rhorer Named Associate Publisher at S&S

    Richard Rhorer has been named v-p and associate publisher at Simon & Schuster's flagship imprint. Since Jonathan Karp came in as publisher, he has shuffled a number of key editors and executives, with Rhorer, who has a background in digital, being the latest addition. Rhorer was most recently director of digital business development at Macmillan.

  • Job Moves: February 15, 2011

    Anne Kubek has been named executive v-p and general manager of the ebook distribution division at INscribe Digital, which provides digital distribution, content conversion and optimization services to publishers. Kubek was most recentlyat Borders, where she spent the last 20 years. Her last title at the compant was executive v-p of merchandising and marketing.
