Strong Border

Don Winslow’s The Border, which our starred review called the “stunning conclusion to his monumental Cartel trilogy,” enjoyed a nice bit of real-world symmetry, pubbing just weeks after the conviction of El Chapo, the inspiration behind one of the series’ main characters. It debuts at #3 in hardcover fiction; on March 7, FX announced a deal to adapt the series for TV.

Something for Nothing

New Yorker staff writer Patrick Radden Keefe hits #8 in hardcover nonfiction with Say Nothing, which our starred review called “a moving, accessible account of the violence that has afflicted Northern Ireland.” Keefe’s investigation of the 1972 disappearance and murder of a Belfast mother of 10, he told PW in November, had an unexpected result: “What I did not realize when I embarked on this project is that I would end up discovering the identity of the individual who actually pulled that trigger in 1972—and identifying that person, for the first time, in the book.”

On Fire

Tui T. Sutherland’s middle grade fantasy series Wings of Fire has sold more than two million print copies over seven years and 12 novels. In 2018, a graphic edition of the first book, The Dragonet Prophecy, illustrated by Mike Holmes, pubbed to modest first-week print unit sales. It’s gone on to sell 92K print units, and now the second graphic adaptation, The Lost Heir, pubs with first-week print unit sales of 15K. The book lands at #2 on our children’s fiction list.
