Rademacher Joins Milkweed, Deutsch Heading to Coffee House

Janna Rademacher has been named managing director of Milkweed Editions. Rademacher, a freelance book publicist for the past three years, previously served for 15 years as marketing director at Graywolf Press. Rademacher's hire was prompted by the recent departure of Milkweed's marketing & publicity manager for the past two years, Jessica Deutsch, who is moving to Coffee House Press as of Aug. 1. Deutsch will replace Molly Mikolowski as marketing director; she is launching her own book marketing and publicity company.

Borders has given CFO Mark Bierly the additional role of chief operating officer, putting him in charge of finance, IT, merchandise planning and supply chain plus real estate and strategic planning. Rosalind Thompson has joined the chain as senior v-p of human resources. After working in HR for decades, Thompson head of her own HR consulting firm.

Faxel New Oasis Audio Publisher

On the heels of Oasis Audio publisher Dan Balow's resignation, the company has named industry vet and current Oasis new business development director Tammy Faxel publisher and sales director. Over the past 25 years, Faxel has held positions in sales, national account management, author acquisition, and product development at Tyndale House, Biblica, and Books to Inspire.

Alison Morris has been named senior editor of acquisitions and merchandising at Scholastic Book Clubs, Catherine Onder has joined Disney-Hyperion as senior editor, and Deane Norton will join Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing as associate director in the subsidiary rights department.

Conescu Joins Dutton Children's as Executive Editor

Nancy Conescu will return to the company where she first began her children's publishing career, when she joins Dutton Children's Books as executive editor on July 6. Conescu has been a senior editor at Little, Brown Books for Young Readers for the past six years, but began working in children's books as an assistant to the publishers of the Puffin and Grosset & Dunlap imprints.

Mitchell to Leave Tundra After 21 Years

Catherine Mitchell, director of foreign and special markets at Toronto-based Tundra Books, has resigned effective July 2. Mitchell has been with Tundra for 21 years since its beginnings in Montreal, during its move to Toronto and its acquisition by McClelland & Stewart in 1995. "I've done what I can do at Tundra, and it’s time for me to do my next thing," Mitchell said.

Kate Rados has been named head of F+W Media's consumer and trade marketing. Rados created the first digital marketing department at Sterling Publishing, Co., and most recently went on to specialize in online marketing at Chelsea Green. Rados will start at F+W June 21 and be based in the company's New York office.

Perseus Establishes Constellation Leadership Team

The Perseus Books Group has named six key executives for its Constellation program, establishing what it dubs the Constellation Leadership Team. Launched in 2008, Constellation is intended to expand digital opportunities for Perseus' distribution clients. The new executive team is culled from top posts across Perseus and includes Joe Mangan, COO; Rick Joyce, CMO; Carolyn Savarese, group v-p of international, rights, and legal affairs; Clare Peeters, v-p of business operations; Melissa Serdinsky, v-p of digital operations; and Greg Orr, v-p of information technology.

Davidar Denies Accusations; Says Charges Forced Departure

The separation between Penguin Canada and former president David Davidar is getting nasty. After Penguin issued a statement Friday announcing that former rights and contract director Lisa Rundle had filed a number of different charges against Davidar and the company--including sexual harassment charges against Davidar--Davidar issued his own statement, saying that he was "disappointed" that Penguin had made a public statement about the litigation. According to Davidar, while he agreed to state that his departure from Penguin was voluntary, "the truth is that a former colleague accused me of sexual harassment and Penguin terminated my employment."

Harassment Charges Filed Against Davidar

With questions swirling in Canada about the surprise resignation of Penguin Canada president David Davidar, the company issued a statement Friday afternoon announcing that Penguin's former rights and contracts director Lisa Rundle charged Davidar with sexual harassment in an action yesterday. The statement added that Davidar was asked to leave the company last month, and while it had been unclear just when Davidar's resignation, announced Tuesday, would become effective, Penguin said he will have no further involvement with the company.

S&S imprint Howard Books has announced six promotions and additions. Jennifer Willingham, former v-p of publicity, has been promoted to associate publisher. Angie VanTassell has joined the company as director of publicity, having left her post as v-p of Alday Communications, and once held the position of director of marketing at W Publishing Group. Libby Reed is joining Howard's publicity department as publicity assistant, and Ashley Earnhardt, previously marketing associate, has been promoted to the post of publishing manager.

Penguin Young Readers Group has two appointments. Camilla Sanderson has been appointed to the newly created position of v-p, digital business development. In her new role, she will be the main contact for all digital business and initiatives. Helen Boomer will be returning to the division as v-p, director of subsidiary rights. Boomer was rights director for Viking and Puffin for 11 years, and most recently was executive director of rights at HarperCollins Children’s Books.

Camilla Sanderson has been appointed to the newly created position of v-p, digital business development at Penguin Young Readers Group. Sanderson has been at Penguin since 1995, and became v-p, subsidiary rights in 2005.
