Heidi Graynor has been promoted to v-p, sales administration, at Penguin Group. Graynor started her career at Putnam in 1983 and was most recently director of sales administration. She organizes Penguin’s three corporate sales conferences and handles BEA and other trade shows Penguin attends.

Davidar Resigns from Penguin Canada
David Davidar has resigned as president of Penguin Canada and is returning to India to return to writing and other projects, Penguin Canada announced Tuesday afternoon. Nicole Winstanley, who was named publisher of Penguin Group Canada last fall, will remain in that role with Penguin USA CEO David Shanks taking on overall responsibility for the company. No word if Davidar's role as president of Penguin International will be filled.

John Wicker has been named publishing segment head of the North American Consulting Media & Information Services group of the global consulting firm Tata Consultancy Services. TCS specializes in helping companies cut costs as they migrate to a digital business model. Wicker was most recently executive v-p of sales of Klopotek.

A number of hires, and promotions, at F+W over the long weekend. Nancy Soriano has been named publishers and community leader for the company's crafts business. Soriano was editor-in-chief at Country Living magazine. Phil Sexton has been promoted from v-p of sales to publisher and community leader for the F+W writing community. And Jon Ackerman has taken on the role of sales director for Adams Media, which is a division of F+W.

Tom Spain has been promoted from editorial director to v-p, editorial director of Simon & Schuster Audio. Spain rejoined S&S Audio in 2005, after two previous stints with the company; he has acquired and such bestselling external titles as The Big Short by Michael Lewis and Every Last One by Anna Quindlen.

Schlosser Named Head of Haights Cross
Ron Schlosser has been appointed chairman and CEO of Haights Cross Communications. Schlosser, most recently a senior advisor to Providence Equity Partners, held executive positions with several information and educational companies. With Schlosser’s appointment, Paul Crecca, who served as interim president and CEO since August 2007, will return to the position of CFO.

Chronicle Books has hired Leigh Haber as an editor-at-large. Haber, former v-p and executive editor at Rodale, is currently a consultant for such companies as Blurb and Reboot Media. In her new role, she will be responsible for acquiring and developing at least five books a year, primarily focusing on wellness topics for Chronicle's lifestyle category. Based in New Jersey, she started working with the company on May 18, and will attend BEA on behalf of Chronicle.

Job Moves: May 18, 2010
Media Source Inc, the parent company of Junior Library Guild, School Library Journal, Library Journal, and The Horn Book, has made a number of additions and changes to its senior management team. Ron Shank, who joined Media Source earlier this year with the company's acquisition of SLJ and LJ, was named publisher of The Horn Book, Inc. This adds to Shank's existing responsibilities as publisher of School Library Journal and Library Journal. To oversee its content licensing business, Media Source has hired Ian Singer as v-p of content and business development. In this newly-created position, Singer, who was most recently v-p of data services for Bowker, will manage the company's content licensing businesses. And Andrew Thorne was named Media Source's v-p of marketing.

New Executive Structure at 'PW'
George Slowik Jr., who acquired Publishers Weekly last month from Reed Business Information, has named four veterans of the magazine as corporate officers. Publisher Cevin Bryerman, co-editorial directors Jim Milliot and Michael Coffey, and children's book editor Diane Roback will serve as vice-presidents in PWxyz, the entity that now owns PW, PublishersWeekly.com, and the BEA, London, and Frankfurt Show Dailies. "I am relying on their expertise, experience, and astounding commitment to the future of this franchise that they've all been part of for many years," said Slowik of the appointees. "Now they are empowered and enabled to act on their ideas, and they have made it very clear to me that it won't be business as usual."

Kate Runde has also been promoted at Vintage/Anchor from senior publicist to associate director of publicity. And Dan Ozzi has joined the imprint as senior publicist; he was most recently at Public Affairs.

Memorial Set for Nina Bourne
Knopf is holding a memorial for longtime advertising director Nina Bourne on Wednesday, May 19, at 4:00 PM at the New York Society for Ethical Culture (2 W. 64th St., New York, NY). The memorial is open to the public. Bourne died last month at the age of 93. She was best known for the advertising campaigns she created for such works as Catch-22 and the Eloise books.

Liz Johnson, former publicist at WaterBrook Multnomah, has been hired as marketing specialist at Thomas Nelson for the Max Lucado Branding Team. In her new role, she will work on marketing Lucado's next book, Outlive Your Life: You Were Made to Make a Difference, out in September. Johnson is also a novelist. Steeple Hill will publish her next novel, Vanishing Act, in August.

Shear Named Publisher of St. Martin's
Matthew Shear has been named executive v-p and publisher of St. Martin's Press. He will continue to report to SMP president and publisher Sally Richardson and will extend his oversight to all of SMP's list, including hardcover. Shear told PW he and Richardson will serve as "co-publishers" for SMP.
