  • Authors on the Air: Sebastian Junger; LL Cool J; 'The Science of a Good Marriage'

    Today, Good Morning America, The Brian Lehrer Show, and The Daily Show all host bestselling author and Vanity Fair contributing editor Sebastian Junger, whose War (Twelve, 978-0446556248, $26.99; Hachette Audio unabridged CD, $29.98) pubs today.     Dan Coakley has been named national sales manager at Mason Crest Publishers. Mason Crest is an educational publisher focused on upper elementary and young adult books. Coakley was, most recently, national sales manager at Rosen Classroom.

    Serena Jones has been named editor at Times Books. Jones was at the Collins division of HarperCollins and, before that, at Simon & Schuster. She has worked with such authors as Jimmy Carter, Walter Isaacson, and David Rieff.

    At Scholastic Stacy Lellos has been promoted from director of brand development and strategic planning to v-p of trade marketing. She joined Scholastic in 2000 and has held a variety of positions in brand and retail marketing and licensed publishing. Rachel Coun has also been promoted from director of hardcover marketing to executive director of hardcover marketing. Coun has worked for Scholastic for more than 15 years. Also, Nick Eliopulos has joined Scholastic trade as editor. Eliopulos was at Random House Children's Books.

  • Moran Leaving Chronicle for Albert Whitman & Company

    PW has learned that Josalyn Moran is leaving her post as children's publishing director at Chronicle after just one year, for a new job as v-p, publishing at Albert Whitman & Company. Her last day at Chronicle will be May 21, and she will start at Whitman on May 24.

    Courtney Young has been promoted to editor for the Portfolio, Sentinel, and Current imprints at Penguin. Young joined Portfolio as an editorial assistant in 2006, after a two-year stint as a technical writer for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.


    Todd Martinez has been named sales & marketing coordinator at Image Comics. Martinez has been the manager of the store Comic Relief--winner of one of the first three Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Awards--in Berkeley, Calif., for the last 14 years.

    There are a number of promotions and new hires this week. Kathy Dawson was promoted to associate publisher and editorial director at Dial; at Scholastic, Stacy Lellos is now v-p, trade marketing, and Rachel Coun has been promoted to executive director, hardcover marketing; Geof Smith was made executive editor at Random House Children's Books; and Alexandra Penfold has been promoted to editor for the Paula Wiseman imprint at Simon and Schuster.

    Today, Good Morning America hosted Queen Latifah, whose Put on Your Crown: Life-Changing Moments on the Path to Queendom (Grand Central Publishing, 978-0446555890, $20; Hachette Audio unabridged CD, $22.98) pubs tomorrow.

  • Craig Morgan Teicher Returns to PW; Ryk Hsieh Comes On Board

    Craig Morgan Teicher is rejoining PW as senior web editor. Ryk Hsieh will join the team as web producer.

  • Job Moves: Wednesday, May 5

    Margaret Rennolds Chace has joined Skira Rizzoli as associate publisher. Chace, who will start at Rizzoli on May 11, was most recently managing editor of publications at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Before the Met, Chace was v-p and managing editor of Harry N. Abrams. Skira Rizzoli is Rizzoli's museum-focused imprint, which launched in fall 2009.


    Julie Bosman has been tapped to succeed Motoko Rich as the reporter covering the book publishing beat at the New York Times. The paper announced in early April that Rich would be moving to a different section. Bosman has predominantly covered politics at the Times.

  • Job Moves: Tuesday, May 4

    Daniel Lee has joined Firebrand Technologies as content chief and head of Firebrand's new content services group. Lee was, most recently, director of digital content development at Harvard University Press, and prior to that was the digital publishing manager at Yale University Press. Firebrand offers various software programs that help publishers track their titles digitally throughout the supply chain.

    Edward Benitez has joined Random House as director, Spanish-language sales.


    Peter Hubbard has been promoted to executive editor at William Morrow. He has been with the company since 2004.
